Sam’s Cafe
Primrose Hill Conservation Area, London

During his time at Gibson Thornley Architects, Harry was Project Architect for the reworking of an existing Georgian property into a new community based cafe.

Holding a prominent street corner in the heart of Primrose Hill, the project was carried out on behalf of local resident, actor and producer Sam Frears.

The cafe is organised across two levels, with extensive alterations required in order to provide a fully accessible cafe space at ground floor and flexible, naturally lit event space at lower ground. A new fully equipped commercial kitchen was designed into the darkest area of the building, at the rear lower ground floor.

Booth seating, wall panels for local artwork, a central cafe bar, and numerous storage requirements, all designed as bespoke joinery, result in a coherent and elevated interior space.

Site Plan

Harry led the design and delivery of the project from early concept through to construction, hand-over and completion. Harry was communicative and collaborative throughout the entire process. He provided clear direction and would always be available to discuss matters on site when needed, while fully committed to safeguarding the original design intent.”
